Pampas

- Cortaderia Selloana /C. jubata

Pampas are tall grasses, over two metres tall with the flower heads even taller. The hard leaves are abrasive on foliage of neighbouring plants.  Pampas is intolerant of shade and fails to thrive once a dense canopy is established but it can hinder the establishment of trees by rubbing its leaves against them. Wandering dew can find refuge around its base. Pampas produces large quantities of seed which it disperses very effectively in the wind

.

Control: Pampas is a grass and is easily controlled with Glyphosate, however the hard leaves are slow to die down and because a mass can be made up of several plants and the dying mass is an ideal nursery for young seedlings, it may have to be sprayed several times.

Time to control: Allow about a year.
