Podocarpus totara   totara
Life Form:
Large tree
Flowers Seeds Dispersal:
Trees are Dioecious and wind pollinated. Like other podocarps, the seeds are produced on a fleshy “foot” which is attractive to birds
Habitat:
Prefers rich soil. Totora is one of the characteristic large trees of the Waikato landscape. Because the seedlings are resistant to stock browsing it is possibly as common today as it ever was despite being a desirable timber tree. Totora prefers rich soil but better drained than Kahikatea. Totora is most prolific along the well drained margins of gullies
